Physics support that helps you work it out

MOE/SEAB Pure Physics (6091 / SEC K323): measurement and vectors, kinematics, dynamics, turning effect of forces and pressure, energy, work and power, thermal physics, general waves, sound, EM spectrum and light, DC circuits, practical electricity and electromagnetism.

9 tracked MOE/SEAB skills, from physical quantities, units and measurement to magnetism, electromagnetism and electromagnetic induction. The tutor asks focused questions, you test the next step, and the understanding stays yours.

Beta subject: Physics uses a domain-specific Socratic rubric and is currently marked Beta while we benchmark its scaffolding across full Sec 3–4 (O-Level / SEC) papers.

What a physics tutor covers

Each skill is tracked separately so strong chapters never mask a shaky prerequisite.

  1. 1

    Physical quantities, units and measurement

    Foundation skill

Use SI base and derived units, standard prefixes, scalar vs vector quantities, and graphical vector addition.

  2. 2

Kinematics (speed, velocity, acceleration and graphs)

Builds on Physical quantities, units and measurement

Interpret gradients and areas of displacement–time and velocity–time graphs, and analyse free fall with and without air resistance.

  3. Draw free-body diagrams, apply Newton’s three laws and F = ma with friction, and calculate weight W = mg and density ρ = m/V.

  4. 4

Turning effect of forces and pressure

Builds on Dynamics and mass, weight and density

Apply the principle of moments for equilibrium, relate centre of gravity to stability, and calculate pressure p = F/A and liquid pressure p = hρg.

  5. Apply conservation of energy, kinetic energy ½mv², gravitational potential energy mgh, work done W = Fd, efficiency and power P = W/t.

  6. 6

Thermal physics (kinetic model and heat capacity)

Builds on Energy, work and power

Explain conduction, convection and radiation, and calculate thermal energy using specific heat capacity Q = mcΔθ and specific latent heat Q = ml.

  7. 7

General waves, sound, EM spectrum and light

    Foundation skill

Apply v = fλ to transverse and longitudinal waves, echo calculations, Snell’s law n = sin i / sin r, total internal reflection and thin converging lenses.

  8. 8

Current of electricity, DC circuits and practical electricity

    Foundation skill

Solve series, parallel and potential-divider DC circuits using Ohm’s law, and calculate electrical power P = VI, kWh cost, fuse ratings and earthing.

  9. 9

    Magnetism, electromagnetism and electromagnetic induction

Builds on Current of electricity, DC circuits and practical electricity

Apply Fleming’s left-hand rule to the DC motor, and Faraday’s and Lenz’s laws to AC generators and ideal transformers (Vp/Vs = Np/Ns).

Illustrative Dialogue

How a physics session unfolds

The student starts by asking for the answer—and ends up solving the key step themselves.

TranscriptIllustrative Physics dialogue
  1. Student

Just give me the acceleration — 20 N on a 4 kg block.

  2. Tutor

Almost, but not yet. Which force is the 20 N, and is anything else acting on the block? Sketch the free-body diagram first and list every force with its direction.

  3. Student

Weight downwards, normal force upwards, and the 20 N along the surface. On a flat surface the weight and the normal cancel.

  4. Tutor

That is the reasoning that makes the arithmetic safe. Only the forces along the motion matter now. What is the net force along the surface?

  5. Student

    F = ma, so a = 20 ÷ 4 = 5 m/s².

  6. Tutor

Yes — and write the units every time, because that is where marks are lost. Now check it by prediction: if the mass doubled and the force stayed the same, what would happen to a?

About this illustrative example

Progress & Family View

How skill progress is recorded

Sessions build a clear skill record for the student and a calm, read-only summary for linked parents.

  • One bar per skill

Mastery is tracked skill by skill, not as a single subject percentage, so a strong topic cannot hide a weak one.

  • The hint level counts

Getting something right with one small hint moves the bar more than getting it right after five. The number we show you reflects how much help you needed.

  • Built from an event log

Every attempt, hint and explanation is recorded as an event, and the bars are calculated from that history. It can be replayed, which means the numbers are reproducible rather than asserted.

  • A parent sees the same numbers

A linked parent gets the same skill bars, the last judgement and its line of evidence behind each level, the recent session summaries and the flag counts — read-only, and nothing that is not also on your own pages.

9 skill bars, tracked independently

In physics, that means 9 separate skill bars — physical quantities, units and measurement, kinematics (speed, velocity, acceleration and graphs), dynamics and mass, weight and density, and the rest — each updating based on verified problem steps. Linked parents see the same topic bars and session takeaways in read-only mode.

Questions & Answers

Physics FAQs

Common questions from students and parents about studying this subject on tutor.ai.

Do I have to draw free-body diagrams?

Yes, and on the whiteboard — a mechanics problem is decided by which forces and moments act on the body. The tutor is sent a picture of the board, so a diagram you draw is something it can read and ask you about, rather than something you then have to describe in words.

Can it check my units?

It will ask what the SI units and prefixes of your answer should be and whether they match. Physical quantities, units and vector resolution are the first skill in the track.

Which Physics topics are covered?

Aligned to Singapore O-Level / SEC Pure Physics (6091). Nine skills, in syllabus order: Physical quantities, units and measurement; Kinematics (speed, velocity, acceleration and graphs); Dynamics and mass, weight and density; Turning effect of forces and pressure; Energy, work and power; Thermal physics (kinetic model and heat capacity); General waves, sound, EM spectrum and light; Current of electricity, DC circuits and practical electricity; and Magnetism, electromagnetism and electromagnetic induction.

Will it help while I am sitting a test?

No. If you say you are in a graded test, it offers to practise the same topic afterwards. It will not help in the moment.
